The Museum of Modern Art in New York commissioned furniture for their Dutch-themed café area. The design of the original aluminium chair was used and new stool versions and tables were developed. The designer did not view it as a special assignment since he was simply delivering an existing product. The project criteria required that a Dutch designer supply the furniture, preferably one working in a self-production capacity, of which Eek was one of only a handful doing so at the time. This lack of competition, together with the fact that he knew the people involved in the selection, made this commision easily obtainable. Nonetheless, the job helped reinforce his name and reputation and people today are still impressed by the fact that so many pieces were sold to such a significant international cultural centre.
