Outside fire designed for "Tulp"
Since we always have such a great time together, we entertained the thought for quite a while that I should design something for Michael Tulp, but never got around to actually doing it. The fireplace market is full of all kinds of phoniness, with gas flames and all that stuff I don’t like. So when they came up with the idea to create a “flame image” using a fluttering curtain and LED lights, the guys at Tulp immediately thought of Piet. After having all kinds of misgivings, I agreed to take on the project on the condition that I would also have the opportunity to make a real fireplace (creating a sort of family of products). They've actually turned out to be quite attractive and tough-looking designs. The real fireplace is especially charming and functional, too (designed for outdoor use only).
