12 October 2011 presentation Judd / van der Ploeg
For many, the work of Donald Judd needs no further explanation, but the fact that we have five of his furniture pieces at our disposal and, starting today, the possibility to offer them for sale, is something I consider very special. No less special was the wall painting by Jan van der Ploeg recently showcased in the gallery for all to see. But wall paintings do not last forever and it was with pain in our hearts that we had to put behind us, and cover with a layer of latex paint, this unique creation. Fortunately, Jan van der Ploeg has now come up with an architectural box of building blocks concept. This box will serve as the support and background for Judd's furniture and can be used in a different form in the future. Not as a wall painting, but a wall you can paint with. The best part about art is that the artist lives on through his work. We can now boast work by two artists who together have really shaken things up.
